Policewoman Collapses After Son Is Jailed For Stealing
It was a touching sight when a policewoman fainted after her son was jailed for stealing three cartons noodles by a Magistrates’ Court sitting at Karu in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 20-year-old convict, Emmanuel Igwe, was sentenced to one-month imprisonment without any option of fine for the crime which saw his poor mother break down and cried helplessly before fainting.
The police prosecutor, Niang Domshak, had earlier told the court that the complainant, one Kingsley Anike, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on November 18, 2016, and following the report, the police arrested the convict who lives with his mother at Jikwoyi Phase 2, Abuja.
Domshak informed the court that the complainant accused the convict of stealing the three cartons of noodles from his shop at Karu market.
The accused who showed signs of remorse while in the dock, pleaded guilty to the charge and begged the judge for mercy, saying that he was forced into the crime by hunger.
“Please ma, I stole the noodles because of hunger, I would not it again, I will change ma.”
But the judge, Mariam Bukola, did not take kindly to his plea as she sentenced him to one month imprisonment, promising to send him for a longer time if he is ever brought before her
