FUNAAB Shuts Down After Student Was Shot During Violent Protest [Photos]

The management have shut down the institution following violent student protests on Thursday.

The management at the Federal University of Agriculture Abeokuta (FUNAAB) has shut down the institution following a violent protest by the students.

The protest, which took place on Thursday, August 18, reportedly left five vehicles burnt and seven vandalised.
According to a press statement issued by the management, students are expected to vacate the school before 6PM on Thursday and proceed on a week mid-semester break.

The protest reportedly occurred as a result of the alleged insensitivity of the school management and the police over alleged incessant attacks by hoodlums at hostels.

During the protest, a student of the school, Taiwo Abisoye was reportedly shot as he and his colleagues took to the streets. He joined the group to protest against serial cases of robbery incidents in the school and the school management’s seemingly nonchalant attitude towards their plight.
Abisoye was shot and was initially thought dead until reports filtered in from the school through a FUNAAB news Twitter handle that quelled the rumours.
In one post, the Twitter page revealed, "Taiwo Abisoye is not dead! He is currently receiving treatment at FMC."
The institution has now been shut down to prevent a total breakdown of law and order until after things quieten down.
